Why did you decide to work in insurance?
I’m quite a gregarious individual and I enjoy helping people and building long lasting business relationships.
Why have you chosen to come and work for Allied?
I met with MD Alisdair Lindley and was really impressed with him and Allieds growth plans for the coming years. I wanted very much to be part of what I sincerely believe will be a vibrant and exciting place to work.
What will your job entail?
I am hoping to launch a couple of exciting new insurance schemes for Allied and I will also reach out to our existing customers to ensure that they are maximising the opportunities available to them with our competitive rates and unique personal service.
Do you like to work to a routine?
Insurance brokers need to be systematic and organised and I’m no different. Routine is part of it, but I also like variety and no two customers’ needs are ever the same.
Do you have a favourite business sector?
Not particularly, but I am hoping to build a unique scheme for Allied involving the relatively new requirement for Airbnb insurance. I feel that we can become a market leader in this new sector.
Why would you recommend a career in insurance?
The industry is much maligned in the press at times but in my experience this misses the point. Insurance broking is about teaming up with incredible people and there are tremendous career opportunities, if you’re prepared to learn and work hard.
What personality traits suit a career in insurance?
A balanced skill set is a must, somebody who has good verbal and written skills will do well.
How do you see the insurance industry changing?
There is a future for well-run commercial brokerages who recognise what their strengths are and play to them. I also see technology playing an increasingly important part as customer’s will demand it.
How do you think your colleagues would describe you?
(Hopefully) Easy to get on with, approachable and hard working.
What do you do on your days off?
I am a family man with two grown up daughters and I love spending time with them. Also, I enjoy jogging, walking, and watching football, rugby, and tennis. I occasionally enjoy a game of golf and always have my nose in a book. I also enjoy cinema, theatre and eating out and finally, I like to travel to Europe when I can.
What do you like most about where you live?
I live just outside of Rainhill village and enjoy the friendly nature of my fellow residents, who will always wish you good morning. It is a safe and relatively affluent place with a village centre, including shops, pubs, and some very good restaurants. We even still have our own library.
